I'm seeing these grocery stores asking you to bring your own bags in or pay for their bags?

Is this popping up where you live?

Lidl and Aldi, German based, yes. Everyone else, no.

Its the supposed way they help to reduce reduce cost and keep the prices down. Aldo evens rents their buggies out for a .25 cents.

I've never paid for a cart at Aldi, it appears almost all shoppers just hand them to the next person coming in as they're going out. It's a pretty silly concept imo, honestly. Lidl has the same buggies with the slots for the qtr etc, but they don't use them. They also have a slot that looks like it would accept a credit card or the likes.
RFID your entire buggy, slip in your payment, and go. Now that would be cool...

I didn't think I'd like it, but Lidl is my go to now. A lot of the stuff I don't see how they sell it that cheap (I know how, just saying), but I still refuse to buy certain things from there still...

I think Aldi sucks, so I assumed Lidl would suck when I went for the first time. Boy was I wrong, love that place! What do you refuse to buy from there?

I think Aldi sucks too. Haven't been in years now, and probably won't... Lidl is the shit!!! Milk today, $1.09 a gallon, it's $3.49 at Wal-Mart. Eggs, .59 a dozen, or 3 dozen for $1.42, they're $1.29 a dozen at Wal-Mart. Their branded stuff is sometimes 3-4x cheaper than the National brand stuff and just as good. I have an infant, and their diapers are over half the price of Pampers and better.

Funny you ask what I refuse to buy, I'm pretty sure it was prepackaged meat, well guess what, not anymore, their steaks etc are damn good!! It actually allows me to wet age it in the fridge for a few weeks before eating too...

Overall, I can/do most of my shopping there now, and I know I'm saving lots, it's great...

fully agree with you. Figured the food would be subpar such as Aldi does imo.....the food has been great. The ONLY thing we have not been happy with are the regular potato chips as they remind me of Clancy's at Aldi, but their Kettle chips are the bomb for like $1.19 a bag! Everything else has been fantastic...even the generic energy drinks taste like RB and are .79 and sometimes BOGO. We have pretty muche been able to do all our shopping at Costco/Lidl now!

In Canada here they have for the longest time NEVER charged for the bags
And since (at least when I remembered) 2013 they have started to charge 5 cents per plastic bag!
I am completely fine since I know it is helping them with their cash flow but then again you have the other side of people who don't want to pay for it and would rather spend that 5 cents somewhere else! Like are you going to buy something useful or something like cigarettes or alcohol??

Another thing that Canadian grocery stores have is price matching and what that is when you have something at Walmart for $1 and at FreshCO it's $3 you can hand the clerk your Walmart flyer and then pay for the cheaper price! The catch is it has to be the EXACT product (name/code/location-Africa etc/weight etc) or else they would say no to you

I believe they have gotten rid of the price matching due to "lineups" at the checkout but my mother loved the idea of saving a few extra dollars for price matching

LOL, the chips, YES!! I think they're as good if not better than Lay's. It's actually one of my favorite things, if not fave, I buy from Lidl. The two I eat the most, Dill Pickle and Salt & Vinegar, actually have more flavor than the Lay's IMO, and once again, almost a 1/3 the price...

The grapes and the plums I've gotten over the last few weeks have been the best I've ever had. They were outta plums earlier. :>(

NJ is eliminating all bags at Supermarkets starting in May 2022. You bring your own bag or bags to a Supermarket or you are out of luck. I have always hated plastic bags at the Supermarket. You can guarantee the groceries will fall out while they are sitting in your trunk if you make a right or left turn. Paper is the best. I understand we have a limited amount of trees but you can recycle paper bags.
